OZ PD Racer video problems

It seems that the links to the videos of our first two OZ PDRs sailing are not working - our host has changed their directory structure (again!). So until we get to do some work on this website you can view the videos here

OZ PDRacer Videos

They show just what good little sailing boats they are in a range of windspeeds. The biggest change in the boats since that time (and the major change for the plans for the Mk2) was to revise the mast design. The good sailors can probably see it is bending too much.

In fact we did break one on one of the planing runs but that might be because Peter, cut one of the scarfs too short (about 2:1 rather than the normal 6:1)

The revised Mk2 masts (in all the plans) are around double the stiffness. The picture right shows me sailing the boat in around 18knots of breeze gusting to around 25. The mast now stands up much better sideways but still has a good fore and aft gust response - largely because of the prebend induced by the snotter tensioning the boom aft.

The boat is easy for me to hold up despite 82sq ft of sail on an 8ft boat and a good chop - proof the mast/sail combination is working well.
